ETF Screener Redesign
In this engagement, we looked to redesign an existing ETF screener offering, with the addition of predefined themes that will fit into the new ETF Hub page.
Timeframe
May 2022 - June 2022
Role
Senior Designer
Due to non-disclosure agreements, all my work here will be represented in a white-label generic branding and will contain no imagery of the product before the redesign.
Challenges
Quick turnaround time set by client (one month from start to finish of project)
No design system to work with nor designers from the clients side to provide visual design feedback
No chance to test with end users or validate ideas outside of the main stakeholder group
I was the sole designer
Restrictive container width caused for the ability to only design for one fixed breakpoint which was not an ideal width for the content
Accomplishments
Met tight deadlines
Client was very pleased with the quality and efficiency of the design work and outcome, especially due to the tight timelines they set before us
Paved the way for future projects (spun off into redesign of all product screeners on the site)
Kick-off
At the beginning of the project, we shared a creative brief to define the problem statement, goals, tasks, and deadlines. This meeting aimed to make sure we all understood the project fully before starting the design work. It helped both sides agree on what to expect with the quicker timeline we were up against.
Wireframes
Beginning the design phase, we presented three low-fidelity concepts to gain a better understanding of what the overall direction and appetite for change would be.
The client was quick to pick a direction that would allow us to make our 2-month turn-around timeframe.
Wireframe Concepts
Visual Design
Due to tight deadlines, we were asked to move directly into visual design rather than wireframes. We obliged and moved from low-fidelity concepts directly into visual design.
Due to timelines, we also began the project by not only showing the ideal state designs but also showing MVP in conjunction.
Final Designs
After four iterations, we received our final sign-off on designs and moved into development quickly.
Overall, the client was impressed that we were able to meet their deadlines. They later utilized this project as a base for a redesign of their global screener as well.
Due to technology limitations on the clients side, this project was only completed for the desktop viewport.
